Several years ago, my mother was diagnosed with dementia. Although she worked hard most of her life, her income and savings weren't enough for her to stay in her own home with a caregiver.
I knew a reverse mortgage could help bridge that financial gap. I also learned HECM reverse mortgages are typically non-recourse — meaning heirs are not personally liable for more than the home is worth when the loan comes due.
At the end of her life, we sold the home and received the remaining equity. This is my why. We could afford to keep her home — and today I help bridge that same financial void for so many seniors.
Most people I talk to have heard a reverse mortgage horror story from a friend, a TV ad, or a neighbor. The truth is: reverse mortgages today aren't what they were 20 years ago. Federal rules changed. Borrower protections got stronger. The product is more flexible than it has ever been.
